How to See How Much You've Spent on Apps and In-App Purchases (iPhone and Android)

Updated 8 November 2026 · about 4 min read

Every in-app purchase, game top-up, coin pack and subscription you've bought through your phone is recorded. Apple and Google just don't add it up for you. Here's how to find your purchase history on iPhone and Android, how to work out the total, and what to do if the number makes you wince.

On iPhone: App Store purchase history

  1. Open Settings and tap your name at the top.
  2. Tap Media & Purchases → View Account. Sign in if asked.
  3. Scroll down and tap Purchase History.
  4. Tap the date range at the top to choose a period, for example the last 90 days.

You'll see every purchase with the app, the item and the price, including in-app purchases like game currency, TikTok coins, Robux and Tinder boosts. Free downloads show too, marked as free.

You can also see the same history on the web at reportaproblem.apple.com. It's easier to scroll through on a computer, and it's where you go to ask for refunds.

Apple doesn't show a total. To get one, add up the prices for the period, or ask Apple for a copy of your data at privacy.apple.com, which includes a full purchase history you can open in a spreadsheet.

Family Sharing: if you're the organiser, purchases made by family members can be charged to your card. Each person's purchases appear under their own account's history.

On Android: Google Play budget and history

  1. Open the Google Play Store.
  2. Tap your profile picture → Payments & subscriptions.
  3. Tap Budget & history.

You'll see a list of purchases and, helpfully, a monthly total. You can also set a monthly budget here. It doesn't block purchases, but it warns you when you go over, which is better than nothing. The same history is at play.google.com under your account's order history.

On consoles and PC

Games bought on consoles have their own stores. On PlayStation, check Transaction History in account settings. On Xbox, check Order history at account.microsoft.com. On Switch, check Purchase history on your Nintendo Account. On Epic Games, check Account → Transactions, and on Steam, check Account details → Purchase history. Our guide to checking Fortnite spending has the exact menus.

Working out the real total

  1. Pick the last three months.
  2. Add up everything from your phone's purchase history, plus any game stores you use.
  3. Add subscriptions billed directly to your card that don't go through Apple or Google.
  4. Divide by three for your monthly number, then multiply by twelve.

The yearly number is the one that changes behaviour. "$47 a month" is easy to shrug off. "$564 a year on games I play on the toilet" isn't.

How to stop it creeping back up

Block in-app purchases on iPhone: Settings → Screen Time → Content & Privacy Restrictions → App Store Purchases → In-app Purchases: Don't Allow. Turn it back on when you deliberately want to buy something, then off again.

Require a password for every purchase on Android: Play Store → Settings → Authentication → Require authentication for purchases → For all purchases.

Turn on Ask to Buy for kids: in Family Sharing on iPhone, or use Google Family Link on Android, so every purchase sends a request to a parent.

Cancel subscriptions you don't use: see our guide to finding and cancelling subscriptions.

How to get a refund for an app purchase

iPhone: go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, choose Request a refund, pick a reason and select the purchase. Apple reviews each request and usually answers within a couple of days. Unintended purchases and purchases by children are the most likely to be refunded.

Android: Google Play lets you request refunds from your order history. Requests made soon after the purchase are more likely to succeed.

Refunds aren't guaranteed, and asking for lots of them can count against you, so use them for genuine mistakes.

Cake, an iOS app in development, is built for the moment before the purchase: put something you'd actually want on a cake sized by its price, and every in-app buy you skip fills a slice.
